Spinal Disc Restoration Therapy
Non-Surgical Spinal Disc Restoration Therapy is a drug-free and completely non-invasive treatment that has the ability to reverse debilitating spinal disc conditions.
The cornerstone of the treatment is guided by the physiological fact that spinal discs have built-in mechanisms for self-repair and recovery. Spinal discs are living tissue with the primary purpose of providing a “cushion” for your vertebrae during the daily functions and movements of your body. Research, that included Neurosurgeons, Chiropractors, and Orthopedists, determined, in the simplest explanation, that in the cases of degenerative, herniated, and bulging discs, increasing the oxygen, circulation, hydration, and blood flow to the disc at the same time as gently separating the vertebrae can start the natural mechanism of self-repair into motion.
Think of your spinal disc as a sponge. When the sponge, is dry and void of its’ inherent need (water) it is smaller and more rigid than when it is filled with hydration. The water-less condition of the sponge basically renders the sponge worthless and unable to perform any designed tasks. Your spinal disc is similar, when it has lost its’ hydration, circulation, etc., it becomes unhealthy and unable to perform its function. The tell-tale signs of the loss of disc health are herniations, bulges, ruptures, etc. - these conditions are indications that the disc is actually “dying.”
The complete, specific protocol in Exclusive Nerve and Disc Centers® was designed to reverse those tell-tale signs and restore the disc back to its’ health. We use computer-guided technology to non-invasively re-create the disc’s natural “pump mechanism” within the disc, which works continuously to keep the disc hydrated and nourished.
When the spinal disc becomes properly nourished and healthy, the pressure on the spinal nerves is removed and the symptoms of pain, numbness, or weakness associated with the dysfunction are alleviated. Additionally, when the irritation to the nearby structures and tissues is removed it can also decrease and even eliminate those pains as well. This results in your own internal healing mechanism(s) going to work to heal the tissue that was also damaged from the malfunctioning spinal disc.
Patients with sciatica, herniated, degenerative or bulging discs have tried many things to help their symptoms. Some of the more common attempted therapies are chiropractic manipulations, medications, physical therapy, injections, non-surgical spinal decompression therapy, and even surgeries.
Therapies and Procedures
The therapies and procedures listed below, along with their brief descriptions, have been tried by many of our patients before they made the choice to visit the Exclusive Nerve and Disc Centers®:
Physical Therapy: A sector of rehabilitative health that uses exercises and equipment specifically designed to aid patients in regaining or improving their physical abilities.
Laminectomy: A type of spinal surgery, either cervical, thoracic or lumbar, used to relieve stress/compression on the spinal cord. The surgeon will remove the lamina. The lamina is part of the bone that forms the vertebral arch in the spine. Your doctor may also remove any bone spurs that may be present.
Spinal Fusion: A major surgery that performs a fusing of two or more vertebrae in the spine. The goal of spinal fusion surgery is to join these vertebrae to prevent them from moving independently of each other.
Chiropractic: Chiropractic is a form of healthcare that concentrates on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic services are commonly utilized by patients seeking relief for neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a comprehensive medical protocol that focuses on correcting imbalances of energy in the body. Since its inception in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture has been used traditionally to prevent, diagnose and treat disease, as well as to improve a person’s general health.
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression: The therapy itself works to stretch/traction the spine by using a decompression table or other similar device, in order to create negative pressure and space for the disc fluid to move back into place.
Massage therapy: Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of stabilizing those tissues. Massage therapy consists of manual techniques that include applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and/or causing movement of or to the body.
Discectomy: A discectomy is a surgery to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the spine. The surgery can be performed in an open or minimally invasive technique. Even with a minimally invasive surgery technique, the disc is permanently compromised, as well, as other supportive structures of the spine.
Epidural Injections: A steroid injection includes both a corticosteroid (e.g., triamcinolone, methylprednisolone, dexamethasone) and an anesthetic numbing agent (e.g., lidocaine or bupivacaine). A very common method of treating inflammation associated with low back or neck related (despite not being FDA-Approved for this type of use) pain.
Facet Block: A facet joint block is an injection of local anesthetic (numbing medicine) into one or more of the small joints located along the side of each vertebrae on both sides of the spine in the lower part of the back. Multiple injections may be performed, depending upon how many joints are involved.
Pain Medications: The first medication of choice for most people with spinal pain is an over-the-counter, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen (Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve). Opioids, which are highly addictive, would be the next step. Commonly prescribed opioids would be Codeine, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, Tramadol, and Oxycodone.
Think of your body using this analogy... Could you build a house while it is on fire?
The same goes for the healing mechanism in ourselves. Our bodies are the most brilliant entities known to mankind. We know our bodies can heal themselves. However, there comes a time when the body is outnumbered and can’t heal fast enough, hence chronic injuries or chronic conditions result. With enough damage, time, and gravity, the body can’t keep up to do its job and heal. Significant improvement in spinal disc health is usually seen within 25 to 35 in-office treatments. Furthermore, continued improvement is also proven to be shown even four years following the type of treatments offered in our Centers.
The Disc Restoration Therapy and Protocol utilized in Exclusive Nerve and Disc Centers® was designed by our team of professionals in order to restore the health of your spinal discs and help you regain the quality of life you deserve to enjoy.
